Relate North 2013

Relate North 2013 was the exhibition and the conferrence  of the University of the Arctic’s thematic network Sustainable Arts and Design (ASAD). The fundamental aim is to create a platform for safeguarding the sustainability of cultural diversity in the North and to support the local social and environmental development of local communities through sustainable means of art and art education.

The exhibition consisted of perspectives from all the member countries of the ASAD network: Canada, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Russia, Scotland, Sweden and United States.

Fairytales of Komi

The “Fairytales of Komi” series consists of nine ceramic plates depicting little-known legends of the Komi people. Its purpose is to bring awareness to the ancient culture of the Komi ancestors among the Komi citizens. Each plate communicates meaningfully and rhythmically with the others, forming a cohesive composition. The central narrative revolves around the mythological hunter Yirkap, a reflection of the ancient ideal of an accomplished hunter, considering hunting as the primary occupation in Northern Russia during ancient times.
