Search within a thread is a project, which is carried out at the arts and crafts Department of Syktyvkar State University named after Pitirim Sorokin. This project provides an analysis of the student’s choices of subjects and artistic techniques used to reproduce their ideas within a local thread: northern nature, myths and legends, archaeology, history, ethnography. The main goal is to find meaningful threads, which can help to explore a new ways of engaging an attention to the local cultural peculiarities.

One of the aspects of the report is an impact of traditional craft skills training on student’s creativity and their attitudes toward values of the national culture. This report also discloses author’s own creative experience and our collaboration with local museums and creative communities as result of our practices.
